Toward Reconciliation

In 2015, Camosun develops an Indigenization and Reconciliation plan that includes 39 actions for the college in response to the nation’s Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Calls to Action.

Some of the actions include: facilitating an annual Orange Shirt Day each September 30 to remember the survivors of Residential Schools; integrating Indigenous teaching and pedagogy into non-Indigenous programs; Indigenizing hiring practices; expanding employee cultural training; exploring new pathways between Indigenous and non-Indigenous programs; and, more.

To date, the college has in progress 30 out of 39 TRC recommendations it has set for itself and more than one third of Camosun employees have completed the TELŦIN TŦE WILNEW (TTW) (Understanding Indigenous Peoples) course.
