Camosun College celebrates its official opening Sept. 16, 1971

Camosun College opened in September 1971 with 980 students as a consolidation of the Institute for Adult Studies (Young Building and Ewing Building), the BC Vocational School (Interurban campus) and the old Junction Campus in Oak Bay.   

The college held an official grand opening celebration on September 16, 1971.

In 1971 tuition fees were $10 per credit to a maximum of $100 per semester. The typical Camosun student was 22 years old, two-thirds of the student body was male and most chose to enroll to upgrade their education to prepare for further education.
